It comes from the inner bark of a tree species called Cinnamomum, and was so highly prized among ancient nations that it was regarded as a gift fit for monarchs and even for a god. In medieval times, cinnamon was used to treat conditions such as coughing, arthritis, and sore throats, and continues to receive accolades for its healing properties and protective antioxidant levels.
