Coconut oil is one of the most beneficial sources of fat. It is comprised of medium-chain fatty acids or MCFAs, which are easier to break down and metabolize into energy than large-chain fatty acids, which are often stored in the body as fat for later use. –Chef Marcus Samuelsson
The coconut is otherwise referred to as cocos nucifera. It is said that early Spanish explorers called it coco, which means “monkey face” because they thought it resembled the head and face of a monkey! And nucifera means “nut-bearing” although the coconut is technically a drupe (like peaches, plums, and cherries), not a nut. The coconut comes from a palm tree that grows throughout the tropics and subtropics. It is incredibly versatile and provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk, and oil that has fed and nourished populations around the world for generations. It’s rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, and we think it just tastes great (in all its forms, but especially in our premium cultured coconut!)
